The Semantic Web a development wherein current, independent, web services can be discovered for use by users. Service discovery will be based upon logical criteria established by the user to reduce unrelated search results. The tools and languages being developed now will utilize this discovery process and go beyond mere search result returns to actually using discovered services. These concepts are explained more fully in a 2001 IEEE article titled Semantic Web Services authored by Sheila A. McIlraith, Tran Cao Son and Honglei Zeng of Stanford University.
A newly proposed semantic web service is being developed for a "comprehensive" travel and leisure application. The application will provide users with various services ranging from ticketing services to providing local area events. At this point there are several services being developed and others have already been obtained for inclusion in the application. More information is available in the Proposed Service Writeup document. Also available is an Activity Sequence Diagram of the proposed service.

The DARPA Agent Markup Language (DAML) is the precusor to OWL. It's goal was the development of tools and language leading to a semantic web. Further reading is available at:

Service Codes
062707 - Coding for services has begun and can be found at Service Code page.
All code files are being created using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 in a Windows Vista operating
environment. Files are posted in zipped format. The latest version of WinZip compression
utility is available for download at http://www.winzip.com.
Service Graphics
Service graphics are routinely updated. Click on Service Graphics to see the latest updates.
6/11/07 - The graphical diagrams for the service have expanded. There is a new overall graphic showing the ontology of the service along with graphics for the ontology's travel and leisure subclasses. A new activity diagram has also been uploaded.
6/12/07 - After meeting with Professor Gannod today major changes were made to both the ontology and activity diagram graphics.
6/13/07 - Minor changes have been made to the ontology graphic. The MovieTheater class was divided into two classes and Entertainment class now inherits from its attributes.
6/14/07 - Man what a fiasco I went through yesterday! The LogiTech WebCam software and driver would not work on my laptop without creating a memory leak at a specific address. Subsequently, every service initiated after the WebCam software/drivers were started caused the memory leak. As a result only minimal services were available on the laptop; even the WebCam would not work. After several uninstalls and re-installs of the camera, I came upon the Kaspersky Internet Suite forum site discussing the error. Apparently the LogiTech software and drivers were conflicting with my anti-virus and firewall program. It appears this has been the case for almost year and no fix has been developed. So I began uninstalls and re-installs of Kaspersky along with its various updates. Still I had no luck. Finally, late in the evening I reached my level of pain. I did a complete uninstall of the camera software and drivers along with Kaspersky. I then re-installed the camera with its software and drivers and installed AVG Free Anti-virus program. For firewall protection I started Windows firewall service (it's better then nothing). The camera has been attached and verified working for several hours now and no indication of conflict has been seen. So, hopefully, this glitch has been corrected. Out of the whole scenario the most disappointing aspect was that both software companies were blaming the other for the problem and suggesting the other service be modified as a fix (These fixes were applied but did not work either).
To get back on track I've uploaded new ontology, travel, leisure and information class diagrams this morning. I will begin working on use case diagrams today and plan to have those uploaded sometime later today. I intend to start with the ontology's sub-classes and build Travel and Leisure use case diagram from those.
6/15/07 - A use case writeup has been created for a "left to right" scenario utilizing all services of the ontology. This write is like a master guide that can be edited to meet more specific scenarios.
6/19/07 - A new Leisure And Travel Ontology and activity diagram has been created. Its changes reflect the discussion we had Friday, 15 June. A new use case document has also been uploaded. Also per our Friday discussion a new ontology for a Travel Information Service has been generated along with its associated activity diagram. The new information service incorporates all the Travel and Leisure classes except those dealing with purchases. To me; what I've done doesn't look very different from what we had so I'm not really confident in it. Along with the new information ontology a new use case is provided. I did not upload all the various class diagrams to cut down on clutter her, but they are available.
